My editor at Lee and Low e-mailed me a coupla weeks ago to let me know that SUNDAY SHOPPING has been chosen as a Junior Library Guild Selection! I was super surprised to hear the news because our book just went to press back in October, but JLG chooses books based on previews before the books are released. How gangsta is that?!
Junior Library Guild is a collection development service that helps school and public libraries acquire the best new children’s and young adult books. Season after season, year after year, Junior Library Guild book selections go on to win awards, collect starred or favorable reviews, and earn industry honors. Visit them at www.JuniorLibraryGuild.com. Apparently, JLG reviews about 3,000 books each year. In my head, I picture a mount Olympus style meeting of muses discussing books and giving a thumbs up or down to each one as it appears above a magical flame centered in a marble pantheon….but I digress.
Sally and I will receive a lovely certificate and a lapel pin to commemorate the accomplishment. Super cool!
JLG also purchases a coupla thousand copies of the book and it will be widely distributed to libraries. Even cooler!
Look for SUNDAY SHOPPING in stores and online in May 2015!
